I built an open-source desktop app to solve a problem that kept bugging me while using Claude Code. The problem: every time I stopped a coding session, that context was gone. Picking up where I left off meant rewriting prompts, re-explaining the codebase, and wasting time getting back to the same point or trying to find the session id from ~/.claude/ directly. An idea came across my mind while working on project 🚀 Most file converters today require you to upload your documents to a website… which isn’t always ideal — especially when the files are sensitive. So I decided to build my own. Over the past few days, I’ve been working on Convertly 🚀 — a desktop file converter that runs completely offline. No uploads. No accounts. No Microsoft Office required. Your files stay on your machine. Just open and convert. Current features: • PDF → Word • PDF → Excel • Word → PDF • Excel → PDF Beyond the functionality, I focused a lot on the user experience. I wanted something clean, simple, and fast — not a typical “utility app.” So I built a modern UI from scratch using Tkinter and added practical touches like a stop/cancel button (because we’ve all been stuck waiting on software before 😄). Technically, this was a great learning experience combining multiple Python libraries — pdf2docx, pdfplumber, openpyxl, and reportlab — into one cohesive tool. This is just the first version, and I’m planning to keep improving it. I watched it happen every semester like clockwork. 9:00:00 AM — registration opens. 9:00:47 AM — every seat in every class I needed: gone. And I was always at work when it happened. The worst part? Our university portal was running on technology older than most of my classmates. Ancient ASP.NET WebForms that would buckle and crash the moment a few hundred desperate students hit it at once. The whole system would go down for minutes at a time — and when it came back up, the seats were just... already taken. Like they evaporated. I got placed on three waitlists in one semester. That's when I stopped accepting it as bad luck and started treating it as an engineering problem. So I built a bot. And deployed it to the cloud. And never thought about registration again. This wasn't a quick script I hacked together in an afternoon. The portal fought back at every step. Hidden __VIEWSTATE fields meant standard browser automation just silently broke things — clicks would register on screen but never reach the server. I had to pull down the entire DOM offline and reverse-engineer exactly how the WebForms tracked state under the hood. Once I understood it, I stopped clicking altogether and injected raw JavaScript directly into the Telerik grid API, forcing server-state updates instantly — no UI involved. Then there was the crash problem. Under heavy load, the server would die mid-request. A normal script would just... stop. Mine didn't. I ripped out every timeout that depended on the network being stable, wrapped the whole thing in a heartbeat loop, and taught it to sleep gracefully when the server went down — then strike again the moment it came back up. Stack: Python. Playwright. BeautifulSoup. Docker. Railway. The morning it ran for real, I was in the middle of a shift. No refreshing. No anxiety. No begging a professor to let me in off a waitlist. Just a notification. Classes secured. Bot sitting idle, waiting for next semester. The repo is private — I'd rather not hand this to every student at my university right before registration opens. But if you're a recruiter or hiring manager who wants to see the architecture and code, I'll walk you through it personally.

🔸 When we have to render a large amount of data on the frontend, we usually have 3 options: Virtualization, Infinite Scroll, and Pagination. But the real question is, do you know which one to choose and when 1️⃣ Virtualized Lists (Windowing) • Render only the visible portion of the list instead of the entire dataset • Ideal for dashboards, analytics tools, logs, and large data tables • Significantly improves performance by reducing DOM nodes and re-renders 2️⃣ Infinite Scroll • Fetch and append data dynamically as the user scrolls the application • Commonly used in social media feeds, video platforms, and discovery-based apps • Trade-off: harder navigation, and limited footer access 3️⃣ Pagination • Divide data into discrete pages with explicit navigation controls • Ideal for search results, admin panels, and enterprise applications • Works well with backend-driven queries and indexing 🔸 A simple way to decide: • Optimize rendering → Virtualization • Maximize engagement → Infinite Scroll • Ensure control & navigation → Pagination The real skill is not just knowing these patterns, but knowing when to use which, based on your users, your data, and your product goal #reactjs #javascript #softwaredevelopment #technology #programming #systemdesign #frontend #ig

Stop Polling. Start Listening. If your frontend is asking the server for updates every few seconds, you're not building real-time. You're building an anxious client. This is polling: Client → "Any new data?" Server → "Nope." Client → "How about now?" Server → "Still no." Client → "Now?" Server → "..." Most of those requests return nothing useful. Yet your server is handling every single one. The result? → Unnecessary load → Wasted bandwidth → Latency that compounds under scale There's a cleaner model. Instead of the client repeatedly knocking on the door, it opens the door once, and waits. The server speaks only when it has something to say. That's Server-Sent Events (SSE). One connection. One open channel. Content-Type: text/event-stream The server pushes updates the moment data changes. No loops. No repeated requests. No wasted cycles. SSE is a natural fit for: → Live notifications → Real-time dashboards → Progress tracking → Activity feeds → System monitoring And here's what most developers miss: When people hear "real-time", they reach straight for WebSockets. But WebSockets are full-duplex, the client and server both talk. For most use cases, you only need the server to talk. SSE does exactly that, with far less complexity. Polling asks. SSE listens. Scattered across the web are thousands of incredibly powerful, hyper-specific CLI tools written in C, C++, or other non-web languages. These tools often have decades of development behind them, but they remain hidden gems, accessible only to those comfortable with command-line interfaces and complex setups. This is where #WebAssembly (#Wasm) comes in, offering a way to breathe new life into these tools by making them accessible to a broader audience through the web. I recently modernized the Intermediate Voynich Transliteration Tool (IVTT), a C-based CLI tool for researchers studying the Voynich Manuscript. Using #Emscripten, I transformed IVTT into a browser-based app with a rich, interactive UI - no compilers or terminal commands required to use it. 🔧 What's New? - One-Click Presets for complex transformations - Tabbed Option Panels for easy configuration - Live CLI Preview to teach users the underlying commands - Side-by-Side Transliteration Viewer 💡 Why WebAssembly? 💡 Learning by Building – Exploring Browser Storage Today I explored the concepts of Local Storage, Session Storage, and Cookies, and applied my learning by building a small project. I developed a Diary Web App using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript where users can write their daily memories with a title and description. The entries are stored using Local Storage, allowing the data to persist even after refreshing the page.
