Where to find remote roles that hire from anywhere (Especially if you live in Africa, Asia or South America) Most job boards don’t care where you're applying from. They’ll show you remote roles… ...then disqualify you at the bottom with: “Only candidates based in US/UK/EU can apply.” Here’s how to beat that. 1. Use the right filters on LinkedIn Search your keyword (e.g. “marketing”, “data analyst”, “sales”). Click “Jobs” > then filter by Location: pick a whole country, not a city. e.g. instead of “New York”, choose “United States”. Then filter by Remote. If the job says: ✔ “United States (Remote)” — it’s possible they hire globally. ❌ “New York, NY (Remote)” — they likely don’t. 2. Check out these “remote-first” job boards These platforms list roles from companies that are used to hiring internationally. Here are 5 of the best: FlexJobs.com Curated remote jobs across industries. Paid, but worth it. Remotive.io Great for tech, product, marketing and writing roles. WeWorkRemotely.com One of the oldest remote job boards — filters by timezone. Jobspresso.co Design, development, and marketing focused. OysterHR.com/careers These are companies that hire through Oyster — a global HR platform. If they're listed there, they hire globally. 3. Read the job description properly Some roles say “remote” but are actually location-restricted. Look for phrases like: • “Work from anywhere” • “Open to candidates worldwide” • “Location independent” These are green flags. 4. Avoid these red flags 🚩 “Must work Eastern Time hours” — tough if you're 6+ hours ahead. 🚩 “Only accepting applicants with US work authorization” 🚩 “We cannot sponsor visas” — means you're expected to already live in the country Global remote work is possible. But you have to be strategic in how you search. Want me to help you personalise your search? Hmmm I have a story to tell🤭 So I did all these and ended up in the apply portal, fill everything only to find at the end, "do you have a US work permit?" Honestly I felt wasted🤦♀️, I couldn't even continue with the application 😪.
RemoteAfrique is a curated for those working from Africa looking to work remotely
Thank you for this. I’ve seen red flags like that but still apply regardless and end up getting a rejection email. This is a sign to focus on what has a higher chance of working.
Thanks for sharing. I have tried several times, but I am always rejected. It is good to know you try and apply on the listed platforms.
It pays to be intentional about job searches. Brian Mwithi Set a reminder to check two new platforms weekly. Small, consistent searches beat random job hunts every time.
Excellent point, Brian. The remote landscape demands more than a polished resume it requires clarity on how you work and deliver. Grateful for this reminder.
Thank you for this
This is the clarity many job seekers needed. The focus is not just applying but knowing where and how to search. Thank you for breaking it down so clearly.
