So there you have it! The last day of my first class as a college instructor for Oregon State University College of Business. A moment in history that will never happen again. For this group of young men and women, I thank you for having the patience with me. The grace you provided as I fumbled around the tools and processes that were all so foreign to me yet you navigated with ease. I thank you for attention day in and day out; listening to my rambling about the importance of communications plans. I know that even as your heads were in your computers that you were still focused on the lectures. I know that you will always remember the significance of understanding risk. The joy in being a part of the international community and the craziness of developing a Work Breakdown structures, that then becomes your milestone plan, and eventually your project schedule. Let’s not forget the importance of a well defined scope and the preparation for change that it is inevitable. Most of all, I thank you for being you. I thank you for showing up even when you didn’t. I thank you for the opportunity to allow me to be me, although you didn’t really have a choice in that. Never forget, “Be yourself because everyone is already taken.” So there you have it, in an unexpected to some, a complete career shift for me. From a global leader in corporate IT to college instructor. Yep, I am officially an Instructor, a career that I think I always secretly wanted, yet, never had the courage to step forward do. This week ends the first term of what I hope to be an unending number of terms and a new career in teaching. So there you have it. The introduction to my new career. I can honestly say for the first time I feel like I am where I belong. I have to say that I am a bit sad to see this term pass, and yes I may have shed a few tears in class, but I cannot wait for the opportunity to teach next term and many more to come. I will end with this. To the Fall 2025 MGMT 364 Project Management class as well as any other students and classes that I get to be a part of. You are the future (PERIOD). You were and will be amazing! Believe in yourself and your abilities. Keep failing forward. Find your encouragers. Find the people who believe in you and hold them close. Know, that I am rooting for you! I cannot wait to follow your story. —bh #gobeavs
