There’s a growing trend in voiceover where authority is being claimed without ever stepping into the arena. Big numbers. Vague metrics. Impressive-sounding “touches” spread across a career. But no clear evidence of what actually matters: Performance. IN the Studio. As a PERFORMER. An actual Voiceover Artist. Not oversight. Not proximity. Not commentary. PERFORMANCE. ON the Microphone. Because there’s a difference between being around the work… and being the one trusted to deliver it. And while some like to talk about volume—how much they’ve “been involved in” over time— those of us who actually do this know what the real heavy lifting looks like: Taking a script and making it undeniable. Beating out hundreds of auditions. Earning the shortlist. Getting the booking. Walking into a live session with world-class creatives— entrusted by recognized brands...both large and small. and delivering, on demand, with no safety net. That’s the weight. Not talking about the work. Not framing the work. Not counting the work. Doing the work. ON THE MICROPHONE. So it raises a fair question: If someone positions themselves as a builder of voiceover careers— Where is their own track record as revealed by the mic? With marked up scripts before them? Countless hours of preparation and study and incessant practice bringing them to the "moment of truth" in session... when that first spoken word passes their lips? And the task of interpreting and translating it from mere written characters to solid message? Where is evidence of the mastery of the CRAFT that is Voiceover? Where are the "reps"? What is the "stack"? Where are the bookings? The sessions? The moments where they had to actually carry the load? Because this isn’t an industry you master from the sidelines. It’s one you survive— one audition, one session, one client at a time. And eventually, that difference becomes obvious. Voiceover isn’t a commentary field. It’s a performance business. And you can’t teach the weight… if you’ve never had to lift it. #voiceover #voiceacting #vo #authenticresonance #realvsnoise #creativework #performanceoverposturing #earnednotclaimed #dothework #shutupandvoice
I wish I could like this post a 100 times over. Interesting times we’re in, where we see a lot of Authority without the track record. Thank you for sharing this message. 🙏🏾
YES TO THIS! Anyone who reaches out to me for my training is signposted over to my website to look and listen to the work I do FIRST. IF I have the career and experience that they want to have then they can look at my training. Excellent post!

💯 Cheers to the drill. It takes "a village" to train folk circumspectly I have found. A village of VO heavy lifters, kind..and not, producers, sound engineers. The coach is key.
