We asked for AI for SMEs, they gave us AI porn: Complaints from Kampala
How many times have you come across the word AI this week?
I bet it’s probably the one topic you’ve seen the most. And that’s true for a lot of people right now.
The truth is, AI is now part of our everyday life. It’s changing how we work, how we live, and very soon, even how we love. We’ve all seen the “adult content” announcement from Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. I bet a certain hub didn’t see that one coming!
AI is here to stay. But right now, there’s a lot of AI slop flying around. From half-baked writing to weird video generations, we’re seeing plenty of examples of AI being used wrong, or not used enough.
Yet AI, if used right, could be a real game-changer.
It could help Apio, a small shop owner in Kampala, run her business better and make more sales. It could help Emeka, an out-of-work youth in Lagos, start a micro ad agency that produces work Don Draper himself would admire. It could help Mohammed in Khartoum finally get a grip on that tough physics topic that’s been giving him sleepless nights.
If people are trained to use AI properly, to actually get the most out of it, we could unlock something powerful across the continent.
I once read that AI should do the boring stuff so we can stay creative. I like that. But it’s not going to happen unless we learn to use AI like a mathematician uses a calculator, as a thinking partner, not a replacement.
Of course, it’s not easy. The first steps have to be taken. For us at 10X Hacks, that means teaching people how to actually use AI. Demystifying it for everyone, no matter what they do. Showing that with the right use of AI tools, you can grow 10x faster in your work or business.
And this isn’t just another training. This is hands-on, real-world, learn-today apply-today kind of training. If you remember the “wash and wear” scene from the old Mr. Ibu film, then you know what I mean.
