Europe's university spinouts are rewriting the rules of tech innovation. A new report from Dealroom and Walden Catalyst shows a remarkable milestone: European university spinouts now have a combined valuation of €370 billion. This figure highlights the significant economic impact these startups have generated from academic research across the continent. The report also identifies ETH Zürich and EPFL as the leading hubs for deep tech founders worldwide. These Swiss institutions have outpaced traditional powerhouses like MIT and Stanford in recent years when it comes to the number of research-born startups created. This shift signals a broader change in the landscape of tech innovation. What makes these European universities so effective at fostering startups? The answer lies in strong collaboration between research, industry, and venture capital. Their ability to turn complex scientific advances into commercial ventures is setting new standards. For investors and entrepreneurs, this data offers clear insights. Europe is no longer just a follower in deep tech. It is a thriving incubator with significant value being created at universities. How should your business or investment strategy adapt to this changing innovation ecosystem? #DeepTech #Innovation #UniversitySpinouts #EuropeanTech #StartupEcosystem

🚀 From Lab to Launch: What Swiss Deep Tech Founders Actually Need to Scale Every week, brilliant ideas leave ETH Zurich's labs. But many get bogged down by delayed early stage funding and chasing non-dilutive solutions. Why? As a venture builder working daily at the intersection of science, capital, and execution, I see three recurring gaps that stop founders before they even reach Series A: 1️⃣ Premature scaling – Building teams and tech before validating the real customer problem. 2️⃣ Capital misalignment – Raising from the wrong investors too early, creating destructive incentives. 3️⃣ Regulatory blindness: Treating compliance as an afterthought instead of design guidelines. The data backs this up: 📊 The Swiss Biotech Report 2025 shows that while CHF 2.5B was raised in 2024 (+22% YoY), privately funded biotechs still struggle to cross the "valley of death" between proof-of-concept and clinical readiness. 📈 And the Swiss Deep Tech Report 2025 highlights that 60% of Swiss VC now flows into deep tech but commercialization remains the bottleneck. At NLC Health Ventures we've learned that venture building isn't just funding it's active de-risking: ✅ Co-defining the product-market fit before incorporation ✅ Embedding regulatory and reimbursement strategy from Day 1 ✅ Matching founders with operator-investors who've scaled in their domain 📚 Helpful resources for founders: Swiss Biotech Report 2025 (Swiss Biotech Association + EY) https://lnkd.in/eaHgBakt Swiss Deep Tech Report 2025 (Deep Tech Nation Switzerland) https://lnkd.in/ef9H9YmV Swiss Venture Capital Report 2025 (Startupticker.ch) https://lnkd.in/egvBevku "Deep Tech Play Book" by Patrick Griss (Zühlke Ventures) https://lnkd.in/euxCuebc Let's connect if you're building in biotech or medtech and ready to move from interesting science to investable company. #DeepTech #Biotech #VentureBuilding #ETHZurich #TechnologyEntrepreneurship #SwissStartups #Innovation #LifeSciences

Many ideas in life sciences start with strong science. The next step is learning how to turn that science into a company. That is where the BioBusiness Summer School 2026 can help. Leiden Bio Science Park is proud to support this program, and we would like to encourage startups and early-stage entrepreneurs in our community to take a look. Across five intensive days, founders and startup teams explore the practical side of building a biotech company. The program covers topics such as business models, IP strategy, product development, regulatory pathways, and financing. Sessions are led by experienced professionals from biotech, pharma, and venture capital, and combine lectures with case discussions and peer exchange. Just as important is the opportunity to meet others who are facing the same questions. You will spend the week alongside an international group of founders, researchers, and entrepreneurs working to translate scientific ideas into real-world solutions. If you are developing a technology, shaping a startup, or preparing for the next phase of growth, this program can help you sharpen your thinking and expand your network. Where: Amsterdam When: 22–26 June 2026 If this sounds relevant to you, take a look at the program. 👉 Learn more and apply here: https://lnkd.in/ddCFhyf And if you know other founders who might benefit, share this opportunity with them.

Germany’s strongest deep tech startups are built on research that advances their field. But how do startups get access to that research? Startups who join our venture lab collaborate directly with one of the country’s leading applied research institutes, Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI. On 11 March, we’re hosting a Live Q&A to explain to walk through: • What our newly launched CORE Topics actually are • How our venture lab works and what's on offer • IP, equity & funding • What we look for (and what we don’t) If you’re building in AI or deep tech and want to build on institution-grade research, this could be a great fit, join our session to find out more. https://luma.com/yupap155
