During our recent webinar, nearly half of attendees said their CCDs were "used by a few". Many sites have Corrosion Control Documents (CCDs) that are technically updated but only exist to check a compliance box. To help teams assess where they stand and identify quick wins, we’ve created a free self-scan tool: 📄 The 5-Minute CCD Program Scan ✔️Check where your CCD program is strong ✔️Spot gaps in structure, accessibility, or ownership ✔️See how close you are to something better (like a digital integrity twin that actually gets used) The scan works for any site: whether you’re focused on compliance, pushing toward predictive tools, or just tired of buried spreadsheets. #CorrosionManagement #eCCD #Reliability #DigitalTransformation #AssetIntegrity #IntegrityTwin

*Root Cause Failure Analysis: Don’t Treat Symptoms, Eliminate Causes Replacing a failed bearing or motor may restore operation — but unless you find why it failed, the problem will return. Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) digs deeper by asking “What happened? Why did it happen? And how can we prevent it?” Common hidden causes include improper alignment, wrong lubrication, design flaws, or even human error. Using structured methods like the 5 Whys or Fishbone Diagram helps pinpoint the true origin. 🧠 Takeaway: “Maintenance ends when the cause is removed — not when the part is replaced.” #MaintenanceEngineering #MachineHealth #RCFA #ReliabilityEngineering #FailureAnalysis #RootCause

Ask The Expert with Schmersal! Question: Why does ISO 14119 state that an unauthorized forced opening of an electromagnetic guard locking device must not allow immediate continuation of the process? Answer, from Devin Murray, BSEE, MBA, FS Eng (TÜV Rheinland): Unlike mechanical locking devices, forcefully opening an electromagnetic lock will not damage the unit. To minimize willful bypassing of an electromagnetic lock, ISO 14119 offers several measures that can be implemented to help deter unauthorized forced openings. One measure is requiring the electromagnetic lock to undergo a resetting procedure of no less than 10 minutes to replicate the time needed to repair a mechanical locking device that would have been damaged if forced opened.

THE SILENT KILLER OF INTEGRITY. STRESS CORROSION CRACKING. It doesn’t announce itself. It grows quietly, under insulation, in crevices, or along residual stresses. Until the system gives way. At MIWC we understand that SCC isn’t just a material issue. It’s a system issue: design, material selection, fabrication, operation, and inspection all play a role. We identify where the risk begins, so failure never gets the chance to finish it. Because true integrity means managing what you can’t see. Before it shows itself. #MIWC #AssetIntegrity #CorrosionEngineering #StressCorrosionCracking #RiskBasedDecisionMaking #ReliabilityEngineering #InspectionEngineering

Well Failure is Never Singular — it’s a System Speaking in Multiple Frequencies. We don’t manage leaks. We manage systems. And every system whispers long before it breaks. ISO/TS 16530-2 delivers one uncompromising truth: No well fails for a single reason. The 26 failure modes are not a checklist — they are a map of how risk evolves. From External Corrosion to Leak via Poor Cement, each mode is a node in a dynamic network, not an isolated flaw. Yet many teams still operate with an instrument-level mindset: A spike in surface pressure? A minor annulus anomaly? A “problem well”? And immediately, a surface-level fix is deployed. That’s where systemic blindness begins. Real Well Integrity means: Diagnostics before intervention. Modeling before mitigation. Seeing the interactions between downhole failure propagation and sustained annulus behavior, not just reacting to symptoms. Noise Logging, PLT, EMDS and MTT aren’t tools; they are the system’s sensory organs, revealing how failures initiate, migrate, and eventually manifest. If you treat ISO/TS 16530-2 as just another standard, you miss its real value. It is a thinking framework for Integrity Intelligence, a way to architect insight, not paperwork. A quiet but necessary question: Which failure mode in your portfolio is growing unnoticed… simply because everyone still calls it “a small issue”? #IntegrityIntelligence #WellIntegrity #PredictiveMonitoring #AdvancedDiagnostics #OilAndGas #ThoughtLeadership #IntegrityByDesign #ISO16530

STOP Designing in Isolation! 🛑 Are you really achieving your target SIL? Many engineers miss how Mission Time (MT), Proof Test Interval (PTI), and Proof Test Coverage (PTC) actually interact—and it can set your End User up for failure. The decisions you make about Mission Time and Proof Test Intervals directly determine if your plant maintains its target SIL. But there's a common confusion between Mission Time and Useful Life that could be exposing your facility to unnecessary risk. Our latest blog from Dr. Steve Gandy breaks down: - Why the End User must own the Mission Time decision. - How Imperfect Proof Testing causes dangerous failures to accumulate (increasing PFD over time) - The critical balance between Mission Time, PTI, and Proof Test Coverage (PTC) to keep your PFDavg low. Don't let design assumptions set you up to fail operations. Learn how these three variables must align with End User practices to ensure lasting safety and compliance. 🔹 Safety Integrity Levels — The Invisible Backbone of Well Integrity Most people view Well Integrity through the lens of tools and data — corrosion logs, pressure tests, and MFC runs. But behind all those diagnostics lies a single silent architecture: Safety Integrity Levels (SIL). SIL isn’t a recommendation. It’s a quantitative contract with risk — defining how much failure your Safety Instrumented System (SIS) can tolerate before people, assets, or the environment are at stake. Reaching SIL 3 or 4 isn’t about ticking a compliance box. It means aligning real-time monitoring (from corrosion logs to noise surveys) with the actual physical integrity of your well architecture. Because if your hardware’s condition — as shown in your latest MFC or ultrasonic data — doesn’t meet your SIL target… that gap is your hidden risk. So, don’t just audit barrier elements. Audit the entire safety lifecycle — from design intent to field performance. Are you managing your SIL targets proactively, or reacting after the alarm goes off? #WellIntegrity #SIL #SIS #RiskManagement #SafetyCulture #AdvancedDiagnostics #EngineeringDiscipline #OilAndGas

Every enclosure tells its own story before a test begins. Some reveal issues the moment pressure builds — a loose damper, a cable penetration left unsealed, or an air path nobody noticed during installation. That’s why before switching on the fan, our engineers spend as much time inspecting as they do testing. We brief contractors, mark out zones, and verify calibration — because an Retrotec Integrity Test (RIT), when done in accordance with NFPA 2001 and ISO 14520, depends on precision long before the first pressure step. In many projects, the difference between a successful test and repeated rework comes down to the same small details — preparation, sequencing, and coordination. Experienced testing isn’t just about running a fan; it’s about understanding where errors hide and preventing them before results are recorded.
