Perfectionism vs Consistency in Content Creation

Everyone says "just post more consistently." But consistency was never My problem. I was posting regularly. Good insights. Decent engagement. But no inquiries. Then I read a post that felt written specifically for me. And it felt personal But the I realised I was writing for everyone which meant Nobody was relating with my Content So from today on before posting, We need to ask ourselves "What do I know?" "Who needs it and why from me?" Clarity comes from writing through it. So can you describe who you help in one sentence? If not.. that's exactly where to start.

I'm curious your opinion, and I appreciate your help... Writing is something I enjoy, and it's a medium that seems to engage well on this platform. I have enough substance to talk about to write an oped every week for years, but to do that I have to wait for timing approval from the platforms where I share my opinions. Would you: Continue writing oped pieces because the credibility and authority lended to me by third party entities with audiences is valuable. Or... Start writing my own newsletter with the same content, using substack to build my own audience and authority. The slow burn to the longer play. I appreciate your insights. Questions are welcome.

The number 1 way to write wrongly is to write for everyone. When you write for everyone, you write for no one. Your content becomes noisy. Polished. Hollow. Forgettable. Connection is specific. It lives in the details only certain people recognize. Pick one person. Write to them. Ignore everyone else. The more specific you get, the wider your reach. Write for one. Reach thousands.

“You don’t have expertise in my niche. How will you write for me?” A founder said this on our call and that’s a fair question. So this is how I answered him: 1.) I do extensive research I study the outliers in your niche, your audience’s real pain points and what content formats are actually working so we can use them for you specifically. 2.) I understand your voice first The biggest ghostwriting mistake is writing in your own voice instead of the client’s. I learn yours through voice notes, messages, calls and an onboarding form. I also ask exactly what words, styles and tones are a BIG no for you. 3.) I keep a document of everything Every line that needed to be changed, every visual that the client didn’t like and why is recorded. I built this in the first month and refer to it every single time I write for you. 4.) I ask a lot of questions every week What happened this week? What story do you want to share? What problem did you solve? This is what makes it actually feel like you. 5.) My clients vouch for it I have written for founders in niches I knew nothing about before working with them. 3 Things That Makes A Copy Feel Fake. 1. When you sound like you learned the audience’s pain point from a marketing thread instead of real life. You’ll write something like: Are you struggling to scale your business? This still says nothing. Because real struggles have details. A real person write like this: I’m tired of posting consistently and still feeling invisible. Good copy doesn’t just identify pain. It recognizes emotion. 2. When every sentence sounds overly polished. People can literally feel when you edited the humanity out of your writing trying to sound professional. Real conversations personality. Sometimes the strongest sentence is: This whole thing is exhausting honestly. People connect faster to writing that sounds simple and natural. Not words that feels manufactured. 3. When the copy is trying too hard to sell before giving people a reason to care. You’ll see: ~ Buy now. ~ Limited slots. ~ Don’t miss out. Back to back. Meanwhile there’s no trust or emotional connection that makes the reader feel understood. Good copy doesn’t pressure or force attention. It earns it first. Like this: ~ Get in before the prices change. ~ Last batch before enrollment is paused. ~ You're either in or watching others start. Even if your copy says all the right things, readers can still feel when it doesn’t sound real. So, you need to be more intentional.

This is such an important observation about writing. The moment we start thinking “audience,” we begin performing. We start optimising every sentence. Trying to sound smart. Trying to sound persuasive. Trying to sound like a marketer. And yet, the best copy rarely feels like marketing. It feels like someone sitting beside you saying: “Hey, I know this problem. Here’s something that might help.” That shift changes the dynamics. Because people do not connect directly with “content.” They connect with how the content solves their problem. Even in Web3, founders and writers who sound human and relatable are often the ones people actually listen to. Really loved this perspective.
