Seasonal easing returned through the back half of April, but rates barely softened as elevated tender rejections continued pushing freight into the spot market. Capacity tightened quickly heading into CVSA Roadcheck Week as carriers sidelined trucks to avoid inspection risk, driving significant rate increases across all modes and reinforcing how sensitive the market has become to disruption entering the 100 Days of Summer. The lingering impacts of Roadcheck Week, combined with produce and summer peak season demand, elevated diesel prices and ongoing supply-side challenges, are expected to keep capacity tight and pricing volatile through at least July. With backlogged freight, carrier network disruptions and ongoing regulatory pressure all contributing to tighter market conditions, a meaningful rate respite appears unlikely in the near term.
