Anthropic told the Pentagon no. Then the US government came after them. And my post about switching from ChatGPT to Claude blew up this weekend. Here's what happened. Anthropic had a $200 million contract with the Pentagon. The government wanted unrestricted access to use their AI for any purpose. Including autonomous weapons. Including mass surveillance of American citizens. Anthropic refused. Within hours, OpenAI took the deal. Trump ordered every federal agency to stop using Anthropic's technology. The Pentagon labelled them a national security risk. Not because they did something dangerous. Because they said no. A tech company was punished for refusing to build tools that spy on citizens and kill without human oversight. Over 1.5 million people responded by cancelling their ChatGPT subscriptions. My step-by-step guide for switching to Claude blew up this weekend. Henna Pryor, CSP shared it. Many used it to make the move. I sat with all of this for a while. I switched to Claude a couple of months ago because it's a better building tool. But watching a company walk away from $200 million because they wouldn't cross a line they believe in? That changed something. The companies building AI are making choices right now that will shape how this technology touches your life. Most people aren't paying attention yet. I build with Claude. Not because it's perfect. Because the company behind it just showed me what they won't do. That matters more than any feature. If you want to make the switch, I wrote a full walkthrough. https://lnkd.in/gimUpmq3
The us government prefers chatgpt over claude?
What's interesting is that OpenAI's business model is in trouble and have subsequently said they are going to be showing ads to the free accounts. Is this another move to save themselves (whatever the cost?)?
Good for you Antoni. The sad irony that Sam Altman started ChatGPT as a non-profit for the benefit of the masses is stark (raving mad). That Claude had ethics and wasn’t afraid to use them makes them an outlier for good. Let’s all support them as we can, and stop giving ChatGPT free surveillance info.
This is a story that needs to be told. "No" is like a compass that points you toward what matters.
Walking away from money proves commitment to principles.
We all deserves CHOICE - thank you for helping us access it! 👊🏽
Antoni Tzavelas Most people focus on features and performance, but trust, transparency, and principles are going to shape this space just as much. Definitely a conversation more people should be paying attention to.
Antoni Tzavelas principles often cost money. Choosing a tool based on company ethics creates a better future for everyone. This choice matters.
A new UI can be copied, but a line in the sand can't. That’s why so many are making the switch to Claude! Morné Maritz 🎨
When companies make responsible decisions like this, it can have such a huge impact. AI is getting powerful and this story should be all the more reason why you should start learning it.
