Why I Prioritize Team Chemistry Over Just Skills When hiring, the ideal candidate has both the right skills and the right mindset. But if I have to choose, I’ll take team chemistry over technical skills every time. Skills can be taught. The ability to collaborate, communicate, and uplift a team? That’s much harder to develop. A highly skilled individual who doesn’t align with the team’s culture can slow things down, create friction, or even derail progress. On the other hand, someone with the right mindset—who’s curious, adaptable, and a natural team player—can grow into the role and elevate those around them. I’ve seen firsthand how the right chemistry fuels innovation, trust, and momentum. It’s what turns a group of talented individuals into a high-performing team. Of course, both skills and chemistry are ideal—but when push comes to shove, I’d rather invest in someone who fits the team and help them sharpen their skills than hire a rockstar who can’t collaborate. How do you approach hiring? Would you prioritize chemistry over skills?
