🌐 The Future of Payments Is Agentic — and It Starts with Trust We’re standing at the edge of a new era in digital commerce — one driven by AI-powered agents that can search, negotiate, and transact on our behalf. In this new landscape, agents will interact and make decisions autonomously — but for these interactions to truly scale, they need one crucial foundation: TRUST. That’s why I’m thrilled to share the launch of Visa’s Trusted Agent Protocol — a new framework that helps establish secure, verifiable trust between digital agents, consumers, and businesses. Together, Agentic Commerce and the Trusted Agent Protocol represent the next wave of innovation. “Our new agent protocol is focused on creating no-code functionality for merchants to securely identify agents with an intent to buy and provide a better payments and personalized experience for its known users.” says Jack Forestell, Visa’s Chief Product and Strategy Officer. The internet transformed how we connect. Agentic Commerce will transform how we transact. And Visa is building the trusted rails to make it real. Trusted Agent Protocol is available now in the Visa Developer Center and on GitHub. AI-powered agents aren’t coming someday. They’re already here. They’re browsing, comparing, and even purchasing on behalf of real customers. And they’re doing it with speed and intelligence. So, how do merchants keep up? At Visa, we’re making that easier. Introducing Trusted Agent Protocol (TAP)- a big step forward in the AI commerce journey we started with Visa Intelligent Commerce (#VIC). TAP is a no-code solution that lets merchants connect with AI agents without tearing down their existing payments or commerce stacks. Here’s what TAP makes possible: --> Instantly recognize a trusted agent --> See its purchase intent --> Link it to a real customer account --> Confirm it’s using the right payment credentials We built TAP with incredible input from Cloudflare and early partners like Adyen, Ant International, Checkout.com, Coinbase, Cybersource, Elavon, Inc., Fiserv, Microsoft, Nuvei, Shopify, Stripe, and Worldpay. The best part? It plugs right into existing web infrastructure; no expensive rebuilds. AI will reshape digital commerce just like the internet reshaped physical retail. But trust is the foundation. Trusted Agent Protocol is how we make secure, transparent, and efficient engagement possible between merchants, consumers, and AI agents. Curious? Yesterday, Visa introduced the Trusted Agent Protocol. This is a major milestone on the journey to artificial intelligence enabled commerce. What is it? The Trusted Agent Protocol is a no-code solution allows merchants to integrate with AI agents without rearchitecting their existing payments or commerce stacks. What does it do? It enables merchants to instantly recognize a trusted agent, see its purchase intent, link it to a real customer account and confirm it is using the right payment credentials. Why does this matter? Agentic shopping is not a hypothetical. It’s happening right now. Over the past year we observed a 4,700% increase in AI-driven traffic to US retail websites. Let’s level the playing field and enable merchants and consumers to trust this innovation, unlock growth, and thrive in the agentic economy. #agenticai #digitaltrust #futureofcommerce

Just last week I joined a panel debate on agentic commerce - a concept that’s quickly moving from theory to reality. What does it mean for merchants when AI agents start shopping on behalf of consumers? 📈 AI-driven traffic to retail sites is up 4,700% in the past year in the US 📈 34% of EMEA consumers have used ChatGPT or AI assistants to enhance their shopping experience (Adyen Retail Report 2025) This shift presents new challenges for merchants: verifying legitimate agents, avoiding false bot blocks, and maintaining visibility into the real customer behind the agent. That’s why I’m excited about Visa’s launch of the Trusted Agent Protocol - now available on Visa Developer Center and GitHub. Built with partners and using existing web infrastructure, it helps merchants: ✅ Verify legitimate AI agents with commerce intent ✅ Prevent bot detection systems from mistakenly blocking them ✅ Support agent-driven guest and logged-in checkout ✅ Preserve visibility into the consumer behind the agent As Jack Forestell, Visa’s Chief Product & Strategy Officer, puts it: “We believe the entire payments ecosystem has a responsibility to ensure sellers trust AI agents with the same confidence they place in their most valued customers and networks.” This is a major step toward a safer, smarter future for AI commerce. With AI-powered traffic to US retail websites increasing by 4,700%, a new protocol enables a more secure, agent-controlled checkout process by helping merchants verify their purchases and prevent malicious bots. Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) today introduced the Trusted Agent Protocol (TPP), which establishes a fundamental framework for agent-based commerce that enables secure communication between AI agents and merchants during every step of a transaction. The TPP seeks to address the unique challenges faced by agent-based commerce, ushering in a new era where AI can search, compare, and pay on behalf of consumers, while ensuring trust between merchants and AI agents. With the launch of this protocol, developed in collaboration with Cloudflare, Visa reinforces its commitment to promoting more secure and seamless interactions in the ever-evolving smart payments ecosystem. The TPP is now available on the Visa Developer Center and GitHub. Over the past year, AI-powered traffic to US retail websites has increased by over 4,700%, and 85% of shoppers¹ who have used AI to shop say it has improved their shopping experience. https://lnkd.in/gsU_AT8b

Excited about the new era unfolding for autonomous, agent-driven commerce! Here are the key breakthroughs: - **Tokenization & Authentication for AI Agents:** Visa introduces unique digital tokens validated by banks for AI agents. These tokens remain locked until we grant explicit permission, ensuring robust security and user control. - **Personalization via Data Tokens:** Visa empowers agents with privacy-preserving data tokens from our transaction history. We decide when to opt in, allowing us to personalize recommendations while safeguarding our raw data. - **Secure Payment Instructions API:** Every agent-driven payment mandates our approval. Visa records transaction intent for security, offering transparent documentation for dispute resolution and enforcing authorized boundaries for agents. How will this revolutionize retail and everyday payments moving forward? #AgenticAI #Visa #FintechInnovation #DigitalTrust #AICommerce #Payments

Bots are running your online store, some help, most don’t... Visa’s Trusted Agent Protocol tells the difference. Merchants can spot helpful AI agents, block the rest, and keep payments secure. It’s simple, safer commerce, better insights and less friction. The brands that embrace this first will own the future of intelligent shopping.
