Raytheon launches a new radar able to detect, track and classify over 1,000 targets. The SharpSight is a software defined, multi domain surveillance radar for both manned and unmanned platforms. Raytheon has been awarded a contract from Blue Raven for 120 radars, a key step in expanding its availability to customers worldwide. The radar enables critical missions such as anti surface warfare, border protection, coastal monitoring, search and rescue, and long range surveillance. The new product combines the capabilities of two of Raytheon proven radars the Highly Integrated Synthetic Aperture Radar and the SeaVue Radar. The launch aligns with RTX new initiative to accelerate production and offer critical capabilities more affordably. Manufacturing will be in North Texas. Last week marked the completion of our work in Jamaica alongside the Jamaican Constabulary Force and Jamaica Defence Force, where we delivered hands-on training in the use of unmanned systems for disaster response. This work was delivered in partnership with the University of Technology, Jamaica with support from the Canadian Embassy in Jamaica. As these teams continue building their operational capabilities, the focus has been on practical application, inter-agency coordination, and using drone technology to improve situational awareness when rapid decisions matter most. Drones are rapidly transforming the nature of modern armed conflict. What was once viewed as advanced military technology is now becoming a central feature of warfare across multiple regions of the world. One major reason is accessibility. Drones can provide: - real-time surveillance; - intelligence gathering; - precision targeting; - and long-range operational capability at significantly lower costs than traditional military systems. However, their increasing use also raises serious International Humanitarian Law questions. For example: - How should proportionality be assessed during drone strikes? - What level of intelligence verification is legally sufficient? - How can civilian casualties be minimized in remotely conducted operations? - Who bears responsibility when autonomous systems are involved in targeting decisions? The growing role of drones demonstrates how technology is evolving faster than many legal and policy frameworks. Yet the core principles of International Humanitarian Law remain constant: distinction, proportionality, precaution, and civilian protection.
