An EV battery can hold enough energy to power a home for several days. A 77 kWh EV battery, for example, stores roughly four to five days of electricity for a typical 2–3 person NSW household, before allowing for conversion losses. And that energy doesn’t necessarily have to stay in the car. Vehicle-to-home (V2H) technology allows a compatible EV to send electricity back through a bidirectional charger to supply a home or building. Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) takes it a step further by allowing energy to be exported back to the electricity network. Australia is starting to build the framework for it. SA Power Networks was the first electricity distributor in Australia to allow V2G charger connections outside trial conditions. From 1 July 2026, South Australian requirements for V2G-capable chargers were also expanded, including provisions for OCPP 2.1-compatible equipment. For strata buildings, though, bidirectional charging is still at an early stage. Very few EVs in Australia currently have manufacturer-confirmed V2G or V2H capability. Compatible charging equipment is also limited, and apartment buildings bring additional considerations around switchboard capacity, metering, load management and shared electrical infrastructure. That makes today’s EV infrastructure decisions important. A strata building installing EV charging now should consider: - hardware that supports current and emerging communication standards - sufficient conduit capacity for future expansion - switchboards with available capacity - load management that can accommodate changing charging requirements - a design that doesn’t make future bidirectional charging unnecessarily difficult V2G may not be a standard feature in Sydney apartment buildings yet. But when it becomes more widely available, buildings that have planned for expansion will have a much easier path than those that need to start again. VeCharge Australia designs and installs EV charging infrastructure for Sydney strata buildings. 📧 info@vecharge.com 📞 1300 315 688 #EVCharging #V2G #StrataManagement #EVReady #ElectricVehicles #Sydney

Ever wonder what actually makes a modern solar setup intelligent? A standard inverter is basically just a translator it converts the DC power into AC power for your home. and it's Job stops there. However, a hybrid inverter, is the traffic controller of your whole system. It connects your panels, your battery storage, and the main grid, then constantly decides where your energy should go in real time: Sun’s shining? It runs your home appliances first. Got extra power? It directs that surplus straight into your batteries for later. Grid goes down? It switches to battery power in milliseconds so your lights stay on. Batteries full? It sends any remaining excess back to the grid. Instead of needing separate boxes for solar management and battery charging, a hybrid inverter handles everything in one unit. It is the easiest way to turn a basic solar setup into a reliable, self-sustaining power system. You're welcome 🤗 #RenewableEnergy #SolarPV #HybridInverters #EnergyStorage #ElectricalEngineering #PowerElectronics #CleanTech #SmartGrid

Your thermostat may not look like a power plant. Neither does your electric vehicle, home battery, or HVAC system. But utility and energy companies increasingly want to treat them like one.

Your Energy Bill Has a Lighting Story An operations manager reviews monthly electricity costs and notices that energy spend remains high, even though parts of the facility have already moved to LED lighting. Energy efficiency is not simply about replacing old lamps with LEDs. Poor light output for the wattage used, inefficient luminaires, long operating hours and missed control opportunities can keep energy consumption higher than it needs to be. We look at the complete lighting system, including light output, luminaire efficiency, operating hours, controls and smart drivers, then identify where changes can deliver a better balance between performance and energy use. ✔ Measure the light delivered for the energy consumed ✔ Review where controls or smart drivers could reduce unnecessary operating time ✔ Model the potential return before committing to an upgrade If reducing operating costs is on the agenda, lighting deserves a closer look because the energy bill often tells only part of the story. 📩 Talk to us about improving lighting efficiency and long term ROI in your facility: https://lnkd.in/dzRD4ssh 🌐 Learn more about our approach: https://lnkd.in/d259UYv #NordlandLighting #EnergyEfficiency #LightingROI #IndustrialLighting #OperationalEfficiency #SmartLighting

Everyone asks me which is better: a fixed DC fast charger or a mobile EV charging station. Wrong question. The right question is: which constraint is binding on your project? Strong grid + long-term site + high utilization → fixed charger. Grid limits + tight timeline + temporary demand → mobile station. Guide: https://lnkd.in/dSuBGfV5 Spoiler: it's the grid upgrade cost you avoid. What's the biggest constraint on your charging project right now — grid, timeline, or budget? #EVCharging #FleetElectrification #EVInfrastructure #MobileEVCharging #DCFastCharging #SustainableTransport #EVFleets #CleanEnergy #EVChargingStation #FutureOfMobility

Today Mixergy Ltd did something that Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Smart Secure Electricity Systems programme has decided not to. We launched Mixergy Flex. A hot water tank that earns money for balancing the grid and pays the household a share of it. Up to £250 a year, depending on eligibility, location and set up. Full details and how it works here: https://lnkd.in/gHkgQUvS Now the bit that's been bothering me for months. SSES is the government's framework for smart appliances. It sets the rules for what gets put on the market. Under the current scope, the only hot water products covered are direct electric and heat pump water heaters. If a cylinder is heated by a boiler, or a heat pump through a coil or plate, with an immersion as back up, it's out of scope entirely. No smart requirement, no interoperability, nothing. That's the majority of cylinders sold in this country. Around 11 million UK homes already have one, and millions more will need one as heat pumps roll out. Most of those will be indirect. So from the day SSES lands, the biggest category of new hot water storage going into British homes will be exempt from being smart, by design. It's a strange place to end up. The back up immersion in an indirect cylinder is a controllable electric load. The cold water in a well managed tank is exactly the headroom you need to soak up cheap wind at 2am and hold back at 6pm. We know because our customers' tanks do it every day. We didn't wait for the framework. Flex works on any Mixergy tank a customer already has, on any smart or time of use tariff, no new supplier. Indirect included. The market is paying for that flexibility today and our customers are getting a cut. Bringing indirect cylinders into SSES costs nothing. It just needs scope defined by what the appliance can do rather than how it's heated. That's the ask. #MixergyFlex #SSES #Flexibility

A 22kW charger doesn't always mean you can charge at 22kW. The available power at the site matters. Imagine an EV is charging while the air conditioner, water heater and other household loads are running at the same time. Without proper load management, the total demand can exceed the available electrical capacity and trip the main breaker. Dynamic Load Balancing changes this. By monitoring the site's real-time power consumption, the system can dynamically adjust the power available to the EV charger. When household demand increases, charging power is reduced. When household demand decreases, more power can be allocated back to the EV. The goal is simple: Use as much available power as possible — without overloading the site. For EV charging brands, this means the charger is no longer just a wallbox. It becomes part of a smarter home energy solution. That's why we see AC Charger + DLB becoming an increasingly important product combination for residential charging. #EVCharging #DynamicLoadBalancing #SmartCharging #ACCharger #EVSE #EnergyManagement
