Curiosity, collaboration and diverse perspectives are key to advancing innovation in biotech. In the latest edition of BiotechNews, Sanne Weijzen, Executive Director, Cell Therapy Business and Portfolio Strategy, shares her perspective on leadership, teamwork and building a meaningful career across academia, biotech and global leadership. As Sanne shares in the interview: “Everybody brings something different to the table, and that diversity is what drives the best innovations.” A strong reminder that innovation is not only driven by science, but also by inclusive teams, different perspectives and the willingness to step outside your comfort zone. One of the more fascinating shifts in life sciences is how dramatically expectations change once organizations become more visible. As attention increases, so does scrutiny around: • positioning • differentiation • leadership communication • commercial relevance • narrative consistency The science may not have changed. But the standard suddenly has. An important dynamic we think about often at BrandWorks. #Biotech #StrategicPositioning #Commercialization
One of the most underestimated transitions in life sciences happens when a company moves from being primarily science-facing to broadly market-visible. Visibility changes the standard. Suddenly, organizations are evaluated differently: • positioning becomes more scrutinized • leadership communication matters more • differentiation must become clearer • narrative consistency becomes increasingly important What worked during earlier innovation stages may no longer create the same confidence externally. As visibility grows, perception compounds faster. And so does narrative risk. #Biotech #StrategicPositioning #Commercialization

Biotech, pharma, and engineering companies are full of brilliant people doing important work. But making a room care about that work is a different skill entirely. From our archive, we wanted to share an example of working with a global biotech pioneer to build leaders' confidence and help them turn complex science into stories that stick. Especially when communicating virtually. Jacob Barnes and his team ran a focused communication workshop built around three simple techniques: • developing an engaging story that resonates with the audience • structuring and prioritising ideas to be short and sharp • performing on camera with engagement and credibility What makes this work meaningful for us is that we know that when scientists learn to tell their stories well, their work has an even greater chance to change how people think, feel and act. Leadership starts with Listening to Learn! For me, innovation does not start with technology or processes — it starts with people, trust, and open conversations. That’s why I truly value our Leadership Breakfast Sessions at Eurofins Genomics. Bringing colleagues from different departments around one table creates something powerful: an environment where ideas can flow freely, perspectives can meet, and organizational topics can be discussed openly. As leaders, our role is not to have all the answers, but to foster transparency, encourage cross‑functional exchange, and actively listen. When diverse expertise comes together in an atmosphere of mutual respect, new insights emerge — often where we least expect them. Thank you to everyone who contributed to today’s inspiring exchange. These moments of open dialogue are what truly strengthen collaboration and move us forward together. ☕💡 #Leadership #OpenDialogue #Collaboration #Innovation #CompanyCulture
At Eurofins Genomics, creating space for open dialogue is an important part of how we grow together. Today’s “Leadership Breakfast Session”, with our Business Unit Manager for BioPharma Genomics, Dr. Melanie Kerst, once again brought together colleagues from IT, R&D, Genes and Oligos for an inspiring interdisciplinary exchange. ☕ We shared ideas, discussed current scientific and organizational topics, and connected across teams and functions in an open and constructive atmosphere. These conversations help strengthen collaboration, encourage transparency, and bring together diverse perspectives and expertise - often leading to new ideas and valuable insights. A big thank you to everyone who joined and contributed to today’s engaging discussion! #Teamwork #EurofinsGenomics #Innovation #LifeScience #Biotech #Leadership #CompanyCulture

The top commercial leaders in genomics do something very differently: They reduce risk. Because most customers are actually asking: * Will this workflow survive publication review? * Will my team use it correctly? * Can I defend this investment internally? * Will this platform still matter in 3 years? The best commercial teams understand: they’re not selling sequencing. They’re selling confidence. And in today’s market, that matters more than ever. Especially as: * budgets tighten * platforms multiply * competition increases * researchers become more selective Technology opens the door. Trust closes the deal. #Leadership #Genomics #CommercialStrategy #Biotech #NGS

I just returned from #BioEquity in #Prague. During the two days of discussions, both on stage and in conversations with investors and biotech leaders, two topics kept coming back again and again. 1️⃣ Execution is the key. Leadership needs to deliver. The most successful investors need strong evidence that a company can execute. I kept hearing the same point: #biotech companies need experienced leadership teams: CEOs, CMOs, CBOs and operational leaders who know how to build, scale and deliver. The best investors are highly active in building these teams from the very beginning. They know strong leadership: -builds credibility, - attracts stronger syndicates - de-risks the company’s ability to deliver key milestones across R&D, clinical development, regulatory affairs, operations, finance and commercialization. 2️⃣ Speed toward clinical development matters more than ever. The pressure to move faster toward clinical development and commercialization is very real. Delays are no longer automatically excused in a market where multiple companies work on similar technologies. 👉 So what makes a biotech company more investable today? Bringing experienced executives into the leadership team as early as possible. Otherwise, companies risk losing momentum, investor attention and partnering opportunities with biotech and biopharma companies looking to license or co-develop promising assets. 💪 Strong leadership has become one of the key investment criteria for investors who consistently succeed. I’m curious to hear how you see this shift in your biotech investments and ecosystem. #Leadership #LifeSciences #VC #BiotechInvesting

AI in clinical development is no longer a future-state conversation. It is already reshaping how biotech organizations operate. From AI-generated regulatory documentation to evolving leadership expectations in resource-constrained environments, this year’s CMO 360 surfaced some clear signals about where the industry is heading. In Part II of his CMO 360 recap, Kevin Lee breaks down the biggest themes that stood out, including: 🔹 How AI adoption is moving from theory to practical execution 🔹 What effective leadership looks like when teams are under pressure 🔹 Why the modern CMO role now extends far beyond traditional clinical oversight One of the strongest takeaways? Speed alone is not a strategy. The organizations positioned to succeed are balancing innovation with clarity, discipline, and patient impact. A strong read for biotech leaders navigating growth, clinical development, and operational complexity. Happy Friday LinkedIn! Just published Part II of my recap from Chief Medical Officer 360º 2026, focused on three themes that came up across the conference: • AI in clinical development is no longer theoretical. Leaders discussed real-world applications already impacting medical writing, protocol design, operational workflows, and decision support. • Leadership in biotech is becoming increasingly centered around clarity, accountability, prioritization, and trust, especially in resource-constrained environments. • The modern CMO role continues to expand well beyond traditional clinical oversight, organizational scaling, evidence generation, and broader strategic leadership. Grateful for the opportunity to learn from and connect with so many thoughtful leaders throughout the conference. Read the full blog here: https://lnkd.in/en8Vu2nn

"For the first time in the 16 years of analysis, obesity has displaced oncology as the largest contributor to late-stage pipeline value, increasing exposure to therapeutic-area-specific shocks. For leaders, the agenda is clear: build a more resilient innovation engine by integrating strategy with dynamic capital allocation, embedding competitive reality into progression and deal decisions, and demanding measurable, end to-end productivity returns from AI investments."
