Cannes Exposed This Secret We sat down with aggregators at Cannes this week — and what they told us most filmmakers will never hear. The distribution landscape is more complex than most independent filmmakers realize. Getting on Amazon is completely different from getting on Apple TV. Apple TV is different from Tubi. And Tubi is completely different from Netflix. Every platform has a different gatekeeper. Every gatekeeper has a different process. And most indie filmmakers walk right up to the wrong door — and wonder why nobody answers. But the aggregators we met at Cannes this week told us something that changes everything for independent filmmakers. There is a specific path. A specific order. A specific type of company that gets your film seen on the right platforms — without giving up your rights forever. Most filmmakers never find it. Because nobody mapped it out for them. So we did. 👉 Get your free Aggregator Distribution Guide here — the exact roadmap we built after Cannes: https://lnkd.in/eYtfYiSw And if you are building your next production — try FilmmakerGenius.com free for 7 days. At BUFF, our view is simple: If audiences are buying tickets, filmmakers should see real participation from the results. Following the 2026 British Urban Film Festival at Genesis Cinema in London, BUFF has now activated the first stage of its filmmaker revenue participation model - with participating filmmakers receiving direct payouts linked to verified theatrical box office performance. The model, first announced earlier this year via Screen International, saw filmmakers from qualifying titles receive 70% of BUFF’s net share across selected screenings including: Small Gods Rise of the Legion It Comes in Waves The Bridge The Dying Trade The Engineer C.R.E.A.M Shadows of Beirut This is bigger than one festival. This is about changing the commercial conversation around independent film. For too long, independent filmmakers have been expected to survive on applause while everyone else in the value chain gets paid. That model is broken. As BUFF enters its third decade - alongside the continued expansion of BUFF Studios into theatrical distribution and international markets - our objective is clear: Build real infrastructure. Create real audiences. Generate real commercial pathways for filmmakers. Independent films deserve better. #BUFF #BUFFStudios #IndependentFilm #FilmDistribution #Cinema #FilmFestival #Cannes2026 #BritishCinema #Filmmakers #TheatricalDistribution
