Australian Women in New York (AWNY) is hosting an event during New York Tech Week, designed to spotlight and connect Australian women shaping the future of tech in the United States. On Friday, June 5, AWNY will bring together founders, operators, investors, and emerging leaders for a dynamic morning at the American Australian Association. This free event is designed to inspire, educate and connect attendees, while creating meaningful conversations around building businesses, careers, and communities across borders. The first panel brings together founders and operators who have successfully navigated the leap across markets. Still buzzing from ElevenCreative event last night! They truly know how to make some noise. Here are my takeaways: 1. Full creative studio - ElevenCreative is positioning itself as an AI assisted creator hub with premium models for the new age of creation. 2. Community-First - Whether Hackathons or community events, ElevenCreative is getting close and personal. 3. Crowd favourite - ElevenCreative isn't spoken about a lot but has a lot of real popularity (outside of social media). Hopefully they continue this momentum and strategic positioning of being community first.

Does the quality of a community depend on how "selective" it is? The idea of "a community for everyone is a community for no one" is a core principle in community building. Every community has to have a common theme that links everyone in the community together. That is the purpose for gathering online or in-person, to connect, learn, and collaborate from each other. In fact, every community should be strongly opiniated on who the community is for, and who it is not for. But sometimes you can go overboard and think communities need to be highly selective to be any good. I saw this in a recent post that I commented on, but wanted to discuss in more detail here. How selective a community is one of many levers in managing a community. By itself as the single most important component in measuring the value of a community, it is not as useful and can sometimes backfire. Many communities like tech user groups are generally open. That is because they are advocating their technologies and helping to educate people, from hobbyists and students to experienced professionals. Tightly curating that type of community would defeat the purpose. You want to have a more open community, because that is how the value of the community is created for its members, sponsors, and organizers. Curation is an important element of building a healthy community, but you have to match curation to purpose. When I ran the Enterprise Sales Forum, we had a smaller Sales Leaders Roundtable sub-community. That was tightly curated because sales leaders needed a more private environment to share with peers. We had to build a greater foundation of trust in that room in order for members to willingly engage and be vulnerable. Before leaning too heavily into curating your community, understand the purpose of your community, the motivations and needs of the members, how value is generated, and the outcomes being optimized. Only then can you determine if you need to tightly or loosely curate the community and when to based on the situation. #Community #CommunityBuilding #CommunityTips #EventCuration #CommunityManagers

How do you "cut through the noise" and stand out on social media in 2026? You don’t. Your audience does. It’s no longer just about being louder, flashier, or simply posting more. In today's saturated digital landscape, the goal isn't to shout over the crowd, it’s to find the right crowd and join them. I work with academics and scholars and I explain it this way: If you stood on a stage in the middle of Times Square to talk about your book, how many people would actually engage with you in a meaningful way? Now, imagine standing on a stage at a specialized conference or in your department building on campus. The difference in engagement is obvious. When you stop trying to reach everyone and start catering to your core audience, you stop fighting the noise and you build a community that makes noise for you. That is how you truly stand out.

Shortly after moving to SF, I posted a video on social media about starting over in a brand new city. 220 women responded feeling similarly. Over a month later, we’ve hosted several IRL meetups across the Bay Area. What started as a fairly random video quickly became a real life proof of concept for something I’ve been thinking about for a while now: community. People want community and online community can become real-world community when people are given a time, a place, and a reason to show up. We get to skip the complicated onboarding and endless group chats. Just a text, a location, oh, and a reason to say “yes”! I’m calling it Found.

The power of community is seriously underrated these days! If used correctly, your community can eventually end up being one of the best tools for not just growth, but also for understanding product-market fit and customer pulse. In my current role as Lovable's Campus Leader for Chalmers University of Technology, the sheer power of community that I have discovered is unmatchable! It's amazing how a word-of-mouth, a small referral or a nudge by the right person can do wonders. From organizing hackathons, to planning bigger events - the 'power of human connections' is really the X-factor these days. Speaking of community, I also really have come to admire the 'other' global community that Lovable is building. They have this entirely different Instagram page that is FILLED with real stories from across all the events across the world. You can see builders, dreamers, students - all working together to build whatever they can imagine of. Amazingly curated, beautiful community stories curated by Saga Vigre Bohinen and team.
