After 26 years in the classroom, a National Board Teaching Certification, and a Professional Certificate in Cybersecurity Risk Management from the University of Washington, I've become increasingly aware of a growing crisis facing older adults. Technology is advancing rapidly — but millions of seniors are being left behind. Especially when it comes to cybersecurity, scams, passwords, phone safety, and digital confidence. That realization — combined with watching family members fall victim to the very scams I now teach others to recognize — led to the creation of Silver Circuits™ by Teacher Trails™. A practical, activity-based digital safety curriculum designed specifically for adults 55+ and the activity directors, life enrichment coordinators, and senior educators who serve them. Our mission is simple: make cybersecurity accessible and engaging for seniors, give activity directors a complete ready-to-run program, and help seniors feel confident, protected, and connected in a digital world. What we've built: 8 complete lessons across two levels — Bright Wires™ and Copper Keys™ — with hands-on card sort activities, PowerPoint slide decks, facilitator guides, participant handouts, bingo games, and glossaries. Lesson 1 is available completely free at payhip.com/teachertrails. No competing curriculum like this exists anywhere. We looked. Excited to connect with others passionate about senior living, digital inclusion, cybersecurity awareness, and community education. #SeniorLiving #CyberSafety #DigitalLiteracy #SeniorTech #CybersecurityAwareness #ActivityDirectors #LifelongLearning #SeniorCare #TeacherTrails #SilverCircuits

As Security 101 kicks off this summer's focus of education, we call it Safe Learning 101. I will be posing more regarding education. John Baumann PSP This week, we recognize and celebrate the educators who do more than teach. Every day, teachers are on the front lines creating safe, structured environments where students can learn and grow. They manage classrooms, guide behavior, and respond to the unexpected, all while carrying the responsibility of student safety. Now it is time to ensure they are protected with the same level of intention. As National Teacher Appreciation Week begins, it also marks the start of a broader commitment to proactive school safety. With Safe Learning 101, Security 101 is helping schools identify vulnerabilities, strengthen protection, and build environments where educators can focus on what matters most. Teaching. Because supporting teachers starts with securing the spaces they lead. Take a moment to thank an educator making a difference in your community. Discover how Safe Learning 101 can support your district or campus: https://ow.ly/KSnj30sVw1M #TeacherAppreciationWeek #SafeLearning101 #SchoolSafety #Security101 #TEAM101

🚨 URGENT: If your school's student health data lives inside your SIS or a legacy platform, the Canvas breach is your wake-up call! This week, ShinyHunters hacked Instructure — the company behind Canvas — compromising nearly 9,000 schools worldwide. Names, emails, student IDs, and private messages. Gone. And Canvas isn't the only target. Earlier this spring, the same group breached Infinite Campus — one of the most widely used K-12 Student Information Systems in the country. Here's the hard truth: YOUR SIS WAS NEVER BUILT TO PROTECT YOUR STUDENT HEALTH DATA. It was built to manage schedules, grades, and enrollment. Health records require a different level of security, compliance, and architecture entirely. At MyCabinet School Health, we built our platform from the ground up with HIPAA, FERPA, and SOC 2 AUDITED — because student health data deserves its own protected environment, not a module bolted onto a system that hackers are already targeting. The question every district needs to ask right now: Where is your student health data, and how is it protected? 👉 Read more: https://lnkd.in/exGDXD_b #SchoolHealth #CyberSecurity #K12 #StudentData #HIPAA #FERPA #EdTech #SchoolNurse #DataBreach #Canvas

Same group. Different week. ShinyHunters breached Medtronic earlier this week. Millions of medical records disputed, investigation ongoing. Today they breached Canvas. Canvas is the learning management system used by most universities and K-12 schools in the country. Coursework. Assignments. Grades. Student communications. The University of Pennsylvania is confirmed impacted. Thousands of institutions. Millions of students. The hackers posted the ransom demand directly on Penn's Canvas page. Pay by May 12 or the data gets released. Think about what Canvas holds. Not corporate data. Not financial records. Your child's accommodation for a learning disability. Their grades. Their messages to a teacher during a hard semester. A student's private communication with a counselor. Things shared in the context of learning, growing, asking for help. One group. One week. Healthcare and education. The two sectors that hold the most intimate data about who we are and what we need. This is not a coincidence. It is a strategy. We keep treating these as isolated incidents. A breach here. An investigation there. A press release. A year of free credit monitoring. They are not isolated. The attackers are not isolated. They move from target to target with the same tools, the same playbook, the same demand. The question is why we keep being surprised. What would it take for the data they stole to be worthless to them? #Canvas #DataBreach #CyberSecurity #ShinyHunters #Education #StudentPrivacy #HumanPresence #Encryption #DataProtection #CypherFile
