I keep seeing people talk about GTM like it’s software engineering. Clean inputs. Clean outputs. Clean systems. Clean automation. Nice idea....Also mostly fantasy. 🤷♂️ Sales and marketing are not deterministic systems. They are human systems pretending to be spreadsheets. You must test variables. You must build workflows. You must measure conversion. You must automate pieces. But ..... But market still gets a vote. The buyer’s mood gets a vote. Timing gets a vote. Trust gets a vote. Your category maturity gets a vote. Your competitor’s bad quarter gets a vote. A random dinner conversation gets a vote. That’s why I’m allergic to the idea that GTM can be made “production ready” too early. GTM is not engineering ⛔️ Especially not early GTM. ... and by early, I don't only mean "young and small companies". I mean new motions, new products, new markets, new categories... It’s closer to sparring. You test pressure. You find openings. You get punched in the face. You adapt. Then, once you’ve seen the same pattern enough times, you systemize it. But if you systemize before the market has spoken, you’re not building a machine. You’re just automating your assumptions. And assumptions, at scale, get expensive fast. ... oh, and by the way, the market will change its mind at some point. So always know that you'll need to rebuild the machine over & over again.

It was everything that had to happen before building. A lead closes. We need to kick off the project. Someone has to create the repo. Move over the right context. Set up the scaffold. Make sure engineering has what they need. Get everyone aligned enough to start. That work used to take me several hours. Sometimes it took most of the day just to plan things out and get the kickoff meeting moving. So we built a Claude Code skill for our sales team. Now, once a lead turns into a client, we run one command inside the project flow. That command creates a brand new coding repository, moves over the contextual information, and sets up the repo scaffold so the engineers can start building right away. All they have to do now is work. No redoing the same setup manually. No wasting senior time on repetitive project admin. No slow handoff between sales and engineering. What changed is not just speed. It is where our time goes. Instead of burning hours getting ready to execute, we can move straight into delivery. That is the part a lot of people still miss about AI.
