I really enjoyed being part of this GSDC panel discussion on the future of skills, leadership, and workforce transformation. One theme I continue to come back to: building the skills and capabilities needed for today and for the future is not just about training individuals. It also requires us to examine the organizational systems around them. A great athlete cannot succeed in a broken system. You can draft world class talent, but if the coaching, playbook, culture, and team dynamics do not evolve, the results will not either. The same is true in organizations. Too often, organizations ask people to adopt new skills, mindsets, and ways of working while existing structures, incentives, processes, and leadership behaviors still reinforce the old ways. If we want adaptability, innovation, continuous learning, and AI fluency to truly take hold, we need to redesign not only capability building efforts, but also the environments that either support or constrain those capabilities. Skills transformation and organizational transformation have to happen together.
