Just back from a great week with the Global Cross-Border Privacy Rules Forum in Lima! 🦙 The Global CBPRs promote much needed regulatory convergence across privacy laws and enable companies to demonstrate best practice in global data governance. Much discussion on how data flows frameworks fit in with the current focus on sovereignty and AI. I also got the chance to present ITI's paper on Privacy and Generative AI and talk about how privacy is one segment of a much wider AI debate rewiring the global policy landscape. The data privacy community has to put its objectives within this larger context and the Global CBPRs are a great example of a flexible tool that can respond to these shifts. Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming how governments deliver public services. In this policy memo, I examine the opportunities and risks associated with government adoption of AI systems, including issues such as algorithmic bias, transparency, and data privacy. The memo explores governance frameworks that promote ethical AI deployment, accountability, and stronger data protection standards in public institutions. As governments increasingly rely on AI-driven decision-making, responsible regulation and oversight will be essential to maintaining public trust and protecting citizens’ rights. #AIGovernance #TechPolicy #AIpolicy #DataGovernance
