Interesting how many teams are rushing to migrate from one platform to another. Before making that move, pause and look deeper at the full cost structure: - Hosting credits - Hosting fees - Integrations - AI credits - API usage - Scaling costs But even before evaluating a new platform, start with a thorough audit of what you already have. Ask the hard questions: - Is the current system built on solid, scalable principles? - Can it be fixed instead of replaced? - Are we overinvesting in maintenance instead of building new value? - Do all existing features still serve the business or the user? - What does our user base actually need today, not a year ago? A well-executed audit can reveal whether you should fix, rebuild, or pivot. And in many cases, migration is the result of a clear strategy, not the starting point. It’s a clean code example of a 2-mode architecture: 1) Single-tenant MCP server (Claude-ready) 2) Shared codebase for scalable multi-tenant SaaS Same foundation. Two modes of operation. But more importantly—it proves something: A single high-level architect can now outpace an entire team of laborers. Development has gotten so fast that: product design can’t keep up with feature development anymore. So the value has shifted. Old model (Agile): • build features first • iterate slowly • defer scale decisions What actually works now: • design for scale up front • think multi-tenant early • evolve product and architecture in real time Because today? It takes a day to add multi-tenancy— not months, significantly reducing future risk as early as possible. So the process has flipped: What used to be “over-engineering” and too “high level” is now just… efficient thinking. The rumors of SaaS's death are greatly exaggerated. The narrative is real, but it's being applied with a broad brush. And broad brushes miss the most important distinctions. There are two axes worth separating. The first is the type of software. Per-seat application software (the tools built for desk workers to click through) faces real pressure. If an AI agent can do the task, you don't need the UX. That threat is legitimate. But infrastructure software is different. The data layer that powers applications doesn't get bypassed by agents, it gets used by them. Agents still need to get context to accomplish their mission. The infrastructure underneath isn't being replaced, it is being transformed to serve agents automating operational tasks. The second is the market being served. The SaaSpocalypse narrative applies to software built for desk workers and not frontline workers—the warehouse floor, clinic, stadium or construction site. Frontline work might be replaced by robots some day, not by SaaS. The SaaSpocalypse narrative paints the whole industry with one color for software. For those building infrastructure for the essential workforce on ground, the story looks very different.

For years, we have pursued cloud strategies aimed at moving as high up the stack as possible, reducing custom development if it does not provide competitive advantage and adopting SaaS wherever you can.
