Building a truly global firm takes people who can carry everything we stand for into new markets and make it real. Zeynep Yavuz-Willson is one of those people. I'm happy to announce Zeynep has been promoted into the partnership at General Catalyst. Zeynep joined us in 2022 with a rare combination: operator instincts, real fluency in growth investing, and a point of view on Europe that was both deeply local and globally ambitious. Her path to GC wasn't a straight line - she moved from growth equity to operating, then back to investing - and that deliberate detour shows in how she works with founders. As she puts it, she didn't think she could ever understand a founder's mindset without having been an operator herself. In a few years, Zeynep helped shape our growth investing strategy in Europe, built out our AI roll-up approach on the continent, and was instrumental in integrating La Famiglia - helping establish GC as a real presence and brand across European markets. She has earned command of the entire GC capital stack (venture, Customer Value Fund, and Creation) and is exceptional at bringing all of our capabilities together to create the conditions for founders to capture the power law. Congratulations, Zeynep.
Z. So deserving. Congrats!
The path not being a straight line is the detail worth paying attention to. The partners who compound the most value over time are almost never the ones who took the most direct route.
This really stands out — especially the emphasis on operator perspective shaping how investors work with founders. That bridge between building and investing seems increasingly important as systems get more complex and outcomes depend on execution, not just strategy. It’s interesting how the strongest operators tend to see things that don’t show up in models — especially in environments where real-world conditions diverge from assumptions. Congrats to Zeynep — this kind of trajectory makes a lot of sense.
Big congrats and so well deserved ❤️

Hemant Taneja Love this. The throughline here is powerful, operator experience shaping investor judgment is such an unfair advantage, especially when working alongside founders in the trenches. Zeynep Yavuz-Willson’s path is a great reminder that the “non-linear” career is often the one that builds the most perspective and conviction. Also impressive to see how quickly she’s helped translate vision into real traction across Europe, that’s not easy to do at scale. Big congratulations to her and the team at General Catalyst, exciting momentum ahead.
The infrastructure layer in health data is the unsexy bet that everything else depends on. Applications are only as good as the data they run on.

1wCongratulations - this kind of path is rare for a reason. Moving between operating and investing tends to sharpen not just perspective, but decision-making under real constraints. That’s usually where the real edge comes from.
