SBA Mid-Atlantic Region’s Post

FROM THE DESK OF: SBA Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Jim Spencer: As we wrap up National Entrepreneurship Week, I want to take this opportunity to recognize the innovators, risk-takers, and job creators who power our economy. I am proud to serve SBA’s Mid-Atlantic region covering Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia. During my travels I see how small businesses are revitalizing communities, strengthening supply chains, and creating opportunities for hardworking families. At the U.S. Small Business Administration, we are proud to support these entrepreneurs under the leadership of Administrator Kelly Loeffler and in alignment with the economic vision of President Trump. Together, we are focused on delivering positive, practical, and measurable outcomes for America’s small businesses. A key priority for the administration is strengthening Made in America manufacturing initiatives. By encouraging domestic production, reducing regulatory burdens, and expanding opportunities for small manufacturers to compete, we are helping bring jobs and supply chains back home. Small manufacturers are the backbone of our industrial base, and policies that support American production translate directly into local job growth and community investment. I have met many hardworking manufactures since my appointment last March. This week I was in Selinsgrove, PA with SBA Eastern Pennsylvania District Office and met Nick Gilson, Founder and CEO of Gilson Snowboard & Ski Co. who is a manufacturer of snowboards and skis, known for their proprietary fluid dynamics-inspired design and their notable collaboration artwork. Last week in Charlottesville, VA with SBA Virginia District Office I met with Dave Johnson, the owner and founder of Icarus Medical. Johnson started his company because he had a knee injury and there wasn’t a device that allowed him to keep doing the activities he loved, so he got to work on manufacturing a brace that worked for his injury and built a company to help others like him. What these two businesses have in common, is they worked with their local SBA district offices to start and grow their small businesses. From small business counseling to loan guarantees, we are here to provide businesses with the tools and resources they need to prosper. What about the brick and mortar businesses, the entrepreneurs. It was just entrepreneurs week yet I haven’t seen any relief to small business owners.

Our SBA is the best kept secret. You do amazing work with small businesses and it would be incredible if every small business knew about the SBA. Thank you.
