This is data we've only shared with select YC founders... Is YC Demo Day funding correlated with revenue? Let me know if you're interested in more analysis on this!
So revenue is not something that attracts, its acquisition. You don’t want to make small amounts of money, you want to make 100x in one go. So now founders are dialed towards building products, give it for free on GitHub and hopefully land google’s attention to acquire the product. Investors get rich, founders sometimes get peanuts from the dilution effect
I'd love to see profiles on the companies and founders in each category. That'll help answer these questions What made a pre revenue company raise millions? What made a company with decent revenue numbers unable to raise? What types of companies make the most revenue in the batch? What types of companies raise the most money in the batch?
Fascinating. Which part of this data surprised you the most when you first saw it?
This is fascinating. I would have thought the YC badge would accelerate rev gen at a much higher percentage than this. I’d be interested to see how many of the revenue-generating companies do in 26, 27, etc.
So interesting!! How much do you think is an intentional choice to bootstrap? I feel like I’m hearing more Founders choosing to bootstrap lately. But maybe that’s just the circles I’m in
