Thank you so much Dicapta and Fred Rogers Productions for putting together this workshop on descriptive audio and accessible screenwriting!! In college, my film classes always challenged us to use as little dialogue as possible, so it was very cool to get a new perspective on how to make visual media more accessible to blind viewers while keeping the descriptions in tune with tone, pacing, story, and character.
Over the last two weeks, I've been able to join Fred Rogers Productions Writers' Neighborhoods in a deep dive into accessibility. Headed by Dicapta, our conversations focused on how our blind and low vision viewers experience a story, including audio description and integrated screenwriting. A huge shout out to Brandea Turner for setting up this training. Not only was the information thought-provoking but it was wonderful to be back in the virtual room with many of my beloved Writers' Neighborhood cohort AND fellows from the other three cohorts. It was truly a beautiful day in the neighborhood!
