J.A. Spector’s Post

If we don’t integrate diesels into our submarine force, we might never reach the size we need to meet our strategic undersea objectives. I’m pleased to share my latest article in Proceedings — “The Path to a Bigger Submarine Fleet Includes Diesels”. I argue that to scale a credible undersea force, the U.S. Navy must supplement its nuclear fleet with diesel-electric assets. Doing so offers cost, flexibility, scale, and deterrence advantages in an era of global competition under the sea. https://lnkd.in/gyiQSRAG

… not sure I would agree for two reasons that are outside the current nuclear BWR, 1) a sub could scale to SMR-like technology, and 2) a sub could also scale to ultraquiet nuclearelectric. In the latter, the sub could be unmanned. Nonetheless, I do understand the diesel reasoning in this post. Dan
