The PHP Foundation has announced the first official PHP SDK for the Model Context Protocol, developed in collaboration with the Symfony core team and Anthropic. 🚀 Day 3 of My 20-Day Backend Development Journey with PHP Today I dived into one of the most important concepts in PHP: Superglobals. Superglobals are built-in PHP variables that are always available, no matter where you are in your script. They’re super handy for handling forms, managing sessions, dealing with cookies, and much more. ✨ Here’s what I learned today: $_GET → Used to collect data from the URL (query strings). $_POST → Used to collect data submitted via forms (secure for sensitive info). $_REQUEST → Can collect data from both GET and POST. $_FILES → Handles file uploads (e.g., images, PDFs). $_SESSION → Stores user information across different pages. $_COOKIE → Saves small bits of data on the user’s browser. $_SERVER → Gives info about the server and execution environment. 💡 Example: When a user submits a login form, $_POST grabs the input. If they log in successfully, $_SESSION can keep them logged in across multiple pages. I’ve been working on something I’m excited to share — Bamboo, a lightweight PHP framework powered by OpenSwoole. Bamboo keeps things simple for developers like me who want speed and flexibility, but it also adds the resilience and observability needed for real-world applications. A few things I love about it: Runs on OpenSwoole for async I/O and performance Clean, minimal structure with an Express-style developer experience Built-in health checks, metrics, and circuit breakers Ready to scale with job queues, caching, and optional ORM support It’s still early, but the goal is clear: make building PHP services fast, fun, and reliable. For the past year, I've been building Mago, a brand new PHP toolchain written from scratch in Rust. Working on massive PHP projects with millions of lines of code, I grew frustrated with CI pipelines taking 30-60 minutes. I knew there had to be a better way. That's why I created Mago. It's not just another tool; it's a mission to build a single, high-performance toolchain for all PHP QA needs. Right now, Mago is a powerful formatter, linter, and static analyzer. For Rust developers, we also offer a full suite of crates for lexing, parsing, AST manipulation, and more. A few weeks ago, we hit a huge milestone with our first beta release.
