To all the Admins in my network. Read the article below regarding a major Secure Boot security update that Microsoft is rolling out. It’s the first of its kind in 15 years—because the original Secure Boot certificates used on over 1 billion Windows PCs date back to 2011 and are now expiring. The update is bundled into April’s Windows security patch and will be installed on all PCs by the end of April 2026. 🔐 What’s changing Windows PCs rely on Secure Boot certificates to validate boot-level software and block malware like bootkits. These certificates are expiring soon, so Microsoft is replacing them with new ones. For the first time, Windows will clearly show whether your Secure Boot certificate is up to date using green, yellow, or red status badges in Windows Security → Device security → Secure Boot. A red badge means immediate user action is required. 🧭 Why this matters Previously, users had no easy way to know whether their Secure Boot certificate was current. Checking required PowerShell commands or Event Viewer logs—far beyond what most people would do. 🚨 Windows Secure Boot Certificates Expiring in June 2026 — This Is Bigger Than It Looks Most people will ignore this. That’s a mistake. After ~15 years, Microsoft’s original Secure Boot certificates (issued around 2011) are expiring in June 2026 — and this directly impacts the root of trust in the Windows boot process. 👉 What does that actually mean? • Secure Boot ensures only trusted, signed code runs at startup • Expired certificates = reduced protection at the most critical layer (pre-OS) • Systems may still boot, but enter a “degraded security state” • Future updates, BitLocker integrity, and bootloader trust chains can be impacted 👉 The reality: • Most modern Windows 11 devices will update automatically • Older systems, servers, custom boot setups, and unmanaged endpoints will not • Some environments will require manual firmware + certificate updates 👉 If you’re in IT / Infrastructure / Security: This is not a “patch Tuesday” problem — this is firmware + trust chain management What you should be doing now: ✔ Audit your fleet (UEFI, Secure Boot status, OS version) ✔ Identify devices still using 2011 certificates ✔ Validate update paths (Windows Update vs OEM firmware) ✔ Plan for edge cases (dual boot, PXE, air-gapped systems) ✔ Ensure Windows 10 systems have ESU or are retired Microsoft is already rolling out 2023 replacement certificates, but coverage is not universal. 💡 Bottom line: If you ignore this, nothing breaks immediately… but your security posture quietly degrades — and that’s exactly how real breaches start. #Windows #CyberSecurity #Infrastructure #UEFI #SecureBoot #ITOperations #SysAdmin #Microsoft #InfoSec

Your Windows 11 is fully patched. It is not secure. A new Windows 0-day called MiniPlasma grants SYSTEM privileges instantly. Here is the reality of this exploit: Problem - Chaotic Eclipse released a public PoC for a flaw in `cldflt.sys` Cloud Files Mini Filter Driver . - It was originally reported by Google Project Zero in 2020. - Microsoft assumed it was fixed under CVE-2020-17103. It was not. Agitation - The exploit works reliably on Windows 11 with the latest May 2026 updates. - It targets a race condition in the routine `HsmOsBlockPlaceholderAccess`. - This is not a theoretical risk. The original PoC from Google worked without changes. - Vulnerability researchers confirm it spawns a SYSTEM shell. - The GitHub repo for the exploit accumulated over 390 stars in days. Solution - Do not assume Microsoft Patch history is complete. - Audit your endpoints for the `cldflt.sys` driver behavior. - Implement application control to block untrusted binaries from running. - Treat all public PoC releases as active threats, not research papers.
