What is Yammer?

- [Instructor] Yammer is a social networking tool for the enterprise software that lets you share knowledge and build strong communities. For the past few years, Microsoft's Yammer team has been working on what they call the new Yammer, fully integrated with Microsoft 365, ready now in 2020, which the Yammer team calls the Year of Yammer. Here's some examples of what you can do with Yammer. Yammer lets you tap the expertise in and around your organization, so you can crowdsource your most challenging opportunities. With Yammer, you don't need to know what specific person has the knowledge that you need. When you ask questions with Yammer, anyone can provide an answer, and the best answer sometimes comes from the least expected part of your organization, because the default in Yammer is that all our conversations are public. We use Yammer to work out loud. We do our work in a way that is public, and we actually describe what the work is that we're doing. Because of this, our work is transparent and visible, which allows our organization's teams to learn together faster. We can collaborate on documents seamlessly by creating an uploading files and working on them together even at the same time. We can extend our team by adding external partners, vendors, or customers to a specific conversation, or if we have a longterm need, we can create communities that include external partners. Yammer also has features that are somewhat like email. Information that's sent to me in Yammer directly is posted to my inbox, and then I'm notified of its arrival. Yammer also allows me to private message or direct message with my colleagues. I can easily see which of my team members are online and whether they're using Yammer on a mobile device or not. Yammer search is powered by artificial intelligence. So when you or I search in Yammer, the results we see are different because they are personalized based on our connections and previous interactions using Yammer and other Office products. Yammer lives in the cloud. It is software as a service, a web-based product, and all web-based products bring something distinct to the software world. The new Yammer was released two weeks ago. It's still in preview, and it is still being changed, and that will continue. So what's there for us with the new Yammer? A redesigned user experience, a beautiful, brilliant canvas that is customizable with cover pages, for example. The new Yammer has a focus on community rather than on groups. Yammer supports live events, which are beyond the scope of this course, but allow you to have events with thousands of people where you use Yammer as your scheduling and presentation platform. And finally, one of the most exciting things about the new Yammer is that it is fully integrated with Microsoft 365. So Yammer is everywhere, and you can work with Yammer from anywhere: in a browser, on a mobile device, in Microsoft Teams, in a special page in SharePoint. Let's continue.
