Convey your vision through better communication skills
When I tell people I'm an architect, people often assume, oh, you must be good at drawing, or, wow, you must be a math whiz. At the same time, I also feel that on the surface, many people generalize that architecture and design are just about creating pretty pictures and beautiful visuals that somehow magically turn into buildings and spaces. While there's truth in the idea that visual skills and technical knowledge are essential, the reality is that architecture and design are far more comprehensive. At the heart of every successful project lies a story, a message, and a carefully crafted narrative that communicates the essence of the work. And so writing and communication are not just an add-on to your skills, they're fundamental. Hi, my name is Branka Knezevic. I'm an architect and founder of Plana Architects in Los Angeles. With over eight years of experience of running my own practice and guiding projects from concept to completion. In my journey, I've discovered that writing and communication skills are just as crucial as design skills. Through writing, I've been able to secure new clients, explain my vision, document projects, and establish a recognizable voice for my brand. My goal in this course is to show you how writing can elevate your work and help you grow as a professional. In this course, we'll start by covering essential communication strategies for design professionals from understanding your audience to selecting the right tone and language. We'll explore techniques for writing clear, concise project documentation and crafting persuasive proposals that showcase your value to clients. You'll learn how to build a compelling design narrative that integrates visual elements, as well as ways to foster client trust and engagement through thoughtful writing. Additionally, we'll delve into techniques for marketing and branding, as well as writing for thought leadership so you can effectively share your insights with a broader audience. Finally, we'll cover project management communication and contracts, providing you with some basic templates and tools that you can use in real-world scenarios. By the end of this course, you'll not only improve your writing, but also enhance your overall communication, equipping you with the skills to connect more meaningfully with clients, collaborators, and the wider design community. So let's get started.
