Navigate Word and the ribbon

- [Instructor] Let's go through the interface of Word. At the very top left hand side of the screen, this is the Auto Save toggle. When you save your file to OneDrive or SharePoint, auto Save is turned on and you don't ever have to click the save button to the right of that. Every change that you make will be saved and uploaded to the cloud. Directly to the right of that is the undo action button. This will undo whatever last action you did in your document. Directly under this is the ribbon, which is the tab interface across every Microsoft product. These are all the tasks that you would want to accomplish while you're creating your Word document. They're categorized and then further grouped in the Ribbon Tab itself. The most common tasks that you'll be using are here in this Home Ribbon tab. For example, changing the font style, adding your underlines, centering your text, and more. And we'll be going over all of that. Now, while you can hunt around in these menu options, sometimes it's easier to use the search bar and just start typing what you're looking to do. For example, here's some suggested actions like showing the ruler, or drawing a shape, or adding bullets. For example, if I wanted to insert a picture into my document, I might type insert image. Word has selected the best action, which is inserting a picture, and I can click on this right from here. So definitely use the search bar. It can save you a lot of time. On the bottom right hand side of the screen is the Zoom slider. To make your document easier to read, you can zoom in by clicking the plus sign, and you can also zoom out by clicking the minus sign. To the left of that are different ways that you can arrange the layout of your document. It's the same text, it's just going to change the way that you're reading it, and I'll be covering that. All the way on the bottom left hand side of the screen, you can click this to use the accessibility checker to make sure that your document is inclusive to everybody. And while you're typing, you'll notice that you'll get a live page count and word count while you're typing. So if you're ever curious what that is, you can always quickly look here on the bottom left hand side of the screen. I want to call your attention to this file button here on the top left hand side of the screen, next to the ribbon. The file button brings you into something called Backstage view. This is where you'll be opening documents, creating new blank documents or documents from a template. You can also print your documents from here. And all the way down at the bottom, if you click on options, here's where you can change the general options that is the setup for this Microsoft Word installation. I'll click cancel. I'll click file one more time. And the last thing I want to show you is that you can click on account, right above options, to see what type of office installation you have. You can check for updates, that is bug fixes, and you can also add additional services to this account. For example, maybe you have an additional OneDrive account or another SharePoint account that you want to add. You can also click to sign out of your copy of Microsoft Word from here. To get back to Word, click the arrow on the top left hand side of the screen and now we're ready to keep working in Word.
