- [Instructor] When a DNS client sends a query to a DNS server, and then that DNS server looks at the name that the client is looking for and it thinks to itself, "You know that's not in any of the zones "that I'm authoritative for, what am I supposed to do?" Well this is where DNS forwarding comes into play. Forwarding provides a way for name spaces or research records that are not contained in these zones that a DNS server is authoritative for that they can be passed along to another DNS server for name resolution to take place. Now, there's a couple different versions of how forwarding works. What I want to look at here is just simple DNS forwarding, and to do this I'm going to connect to one of my DNS servers called DC1.
