- Production scheduling is the one area where most new video producers stumble, and often times lose money. You have to be mindful not to set unrealistic expectations of what you can film in a production day, and the time it takes in post-production to complete the project. Let's talk first about pre-production and production. Production scheduling is more than just a timeline. You need to realize there are a lot of moving parts to be considered. Rule number one for production scheduling, everything takes longer than expected. Literally, everything. If you have never put together a production schedule before, this is great place to ask for local help. A director of photography, a fellow video producer with more experience. These would be good sounding boards to help with the schedule. At the very least, ask them to look over what you've laid out, to see if it's realistic.
