From the course: V-Ray 5 for 3ds Max Essential Training

Software versions and exercise files

- [Instructor] One of the things that we will definitely want to be clear on before starting to work through the exercises found in this course are the software versions being used in the video presentations themselves, so 3ds Max and V-Ray 5. On the Mac side of things then, I'm going to be working with 3ds Max 2021, although any version of Max that is supported by V-Ray 5 should allow us to work along with and benefit from the course, with 3ds Max 2019 through to 2022 probably being most compatible with the V-Ray tools that we will be using here. As regards V-Ray itself, I am going to be working with version five, hotfix two, which is essentially V-Ray 5.00.05. Now, a couple of important things that we do need to note here are that firstly, if not using the same software versions, then we will probably encounter some UI and even functionality differences as we work through the material as compared to the video presentations that is, and that secondly, if using the downloadable exercise files folder, then we will only be able to work with 3ds Max 2019 or higher as the Max scene files contained there have all been saved to the Max 2019 format. Something else that I want to quickly point out here is the fact that a couple of the scenes that we will be using in this course were originally created in the Blender application and then donated to the user community via a Creative Commons license that allows for both commercial use and redistribution of that work in a variety of forms. And so I just wanted to let you know that any scenes used here that begin with the CC for Creative Commons prefix in their name can also be considered usable by you in this fashion as well, whilst the rest of the scenes provided are of course for training purposes only. Now, of course, if you are simply watching through this course in order to learn from it or are following along using scenes of your own, then the exercise files points made here won't be relevant to you.
