Defining your audience
- Who do you count as your audience? The content you produce must speak specifically to your audience or audiences in order to have the type of impact you want. I say "audience says" because they're seldom only one group of people who use your content. For instance, a manufacturing company might have customers, support technicians, suppliers, investors, press, and job seekers. Each of these groups has different needs from the company, expects different content when they interact with the site or print literature, and has a different tolerance for humor, marketing speak, and so on. They might also be interacting in different ways through your intranet, extranet, public site, or apps, or mobile devices, desktops, or through third party software. You might decide that some of these groups are less important to focus on. That's okay. For instance, maybe suppliers don't need any special treatment. They really just care…
