Designing experiences for TVs
- Designing for TV presents some unique challenges. 2 Typically, when watching TV, 3 people are about 10 feet away from the television screen, 4 so sometimes you might hear designing for TVs 5 referred to as 10-foot UI. 6 Typical activities are to watch content or for gaming. 7 The primary method of interacting with the television 8 is through a remote control or a game pad. 9 Most TV and game controllers 10 have a D-pad directional controller, 11 which consists of four directions: 12 up, down, left and right, 13 which are used to navigate the screen. 14 In addition to the traditional remote, 15 most smart TVs and devices for TV 16 have an app to pair your phone to act as a remote. 17 Some considerations when designing for TV: 18 legibility of content. 19 While sitting 10 feet away, 20 you'll want to ensure there isn't a lot of text on the screen 21 and the text is large enough to see from a distance. 22 Using light text…
