Recognizing privilege and inequity

- While certain issues concerning privilege in the workplace might make some of us uncomfortable, denying or ignoring it will only make it more prevalent. It's important for us to become more aware of how privilege can negatively impact the culture of a work environment, because if you can't see a problem, you can't solve it. Acknowledging our privilege is a great way for us to challenge any established norms that could be creating imbalanced advantages and disadvantages amongst team members. Analyzing one's own privilege can prove to be a difficult task because it isn't easily perceived or sensed by those who have it. For instance, if you're not a pregnant woman, you may not have to consider how long you've been on your feet in a day's work, and you definitely won't have to consider prenatal care or scheduling maternity leave.
