- What if I told you that by following directions from way back in 1994, you'll improve your designs. You might think that's bonkers, but it's true. While technology changes quickly, people's mental models around technology do not. Learn why research backed usability heuristics should be the foundation for all your digital projects. Usability is the ease of use of a product, system, or service. You can think of heuristics as rules of thumb to help you design better. In the 1990s, human computer interaction researchers looked at almost 250 common problems with interface design. They then developed 10 usability heuristics to design better for people. More than 30 years later, digital designers still use these heuristics because they hold true.
