- Do good stories have to be funny? No, of course not. But does it help? Well, sure it does. So, don't sweat it if your stories aren't hilarious, but if you occasionally get a smile or a silent chuckle during a story, don't sweat that either, it's a good thing. Now, to be humorous with your storytelling doesn't just mean telling jokes or even telling funny stories. Although, both of those are fine. According to humor engineer Andrew Tarvin, "Humor can be something funny, or absurd, "or just anything strange that causes amusement." In other words, the whole story doesn't need to be funny, or told for the purpose of getting a laugh. But it's certainly nice if there's something amusing about the way you tell it, somewhere in the story. All right, here's some ways to do that.
