What are hyperlapse shots useful for and what gear do I need?

(upbeat music) - [Narrator] Hyperlapse shots are a great way to show a lot of an environment. Maybe you want to condense time and show the transportation from one place to another, or you want to do a walkthrough of a large place that would take a long time to show in real time. Effectively, a hyperlapse is a moving time lapse and it can be done with a wide range of tools. If you're on a budget, you can easily attach your phone to something like a extension pole. This will help you walk with it more smoothly and even create movement such as turns or twists as the camera moves through the scene. You could just use the built in camera feature to record a time lapse right there on your phone. If you want to step things up a bit and really want find control, you could start to shoot a regular time lapse shot from a tripod. Then simply move the tripod, a set amount or distance. This will require you to have an intervalometer of some sort to trigger your camera or perhaps there's a built in one on your camera itself. I'm also a big fan of doing moving hyperlapse this way using the Insta360 camera. With its built in stabilization features, and the ability to reframe the shot, you could effectively put the camera on a pole and just walk with it. You could really create some amazing shots with this camera, and have great flexibility in post production to stabilize the shot. And don't forget about attaching a camera to a vehicle. This is a great way to get a shot, whether it's outside the car or just your phone mounted to the dashboard. You could do some really cool things from the point of view of a moving vehicle. We'll talk more about moving vehicle shots a little later in this course but it's a fun way to create hyperlapses as well. (upbeat music)
