Tap into the three psychological elements of trust
- Imagine a workplace where your feedback and ideas are sought out and valued, where you're chosen for high-profile assignments and you have stronger support for taking risks. You have more control over creating this type of environment than you may think. And the secret? Building trust. But how do you build something so crucial yet so elusive? Well, luckily, it's somewhat of a predictable science. Research has shown you can build trust with others by focusing on three psychological elements. First is benevolence or the level of goodwill you show towards others. Show that you have their best interests at heart as much as your own. Second is competence. Having skills and expertise, but also communicating your abilities so that other people feel confident you can handle things. Third is integrity, which is all about being reliable, transparent, and following through on promises to show you're dependable and honest. So which of these elements are you already doing a good job with, and which has room for improvement?
