- For women and professionals of color, getting real about resilience can look different. As a woman and particularly as a Black woman, I'd be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the systemic structures and biases that make us feel the cape or mask is necessary to advance our career. I remember a time in my career when I was interviewing for a position to transition from sales to marketing. It was my first time applying for a marketing role and many people told me it was unlikely I'd get the job on the first shot. Seven weeks before my wedding, I received a call that I'd gotten the job. I was elated. After learning the details and the timeline of the relocation, coupled with the unexpected news that my fiance had received a full academic scholarship to get his MBA at one of his top three schools across the country, I decided to turn down the offer. It was the best decision for my family and one of the hardest career…
