- Hi, I'm Ben Long. This week on The Practicing Photographer we're taking a look back at our coverage of an essential skill that's worth looking at again. (film striping) As a photographer, you should always be on the lookout for great light and late afternoon is a fantastic time to find it. I've got some going on right now. These trees have wonderful light on them. I love the way that they're lit up on one side and shadowy on the other, and there's this nice gradient around them that really reveals their shape. I like the reflections that I'm getting in the water. I like the texture that's coming up because of this very contrasty light that we're getting. This is a case of good light meaning I like the way that it's illuminating my subject. In this case, I saw these trees up against the mountain. I decided that's what I wanted to photograph but I needed it in very good light. There's another way of thinking about good…
