- This week here on "The Practicing Photographer", we're going to talk about a special tool for macro shooting. Macro is a lot of fun if you are looking for something new to do with your camera. It's especially good in the winter months, you can sit inside and find landscapes inside of flowers or objects sitting around your house. One of the inherent difficulties in macro shooting, though, is that at macro distances, depth of field is incredibly shallow. So what I'm talking about is if I'm using a macro lens, that is, a lens that is going to give me a representation on the sensor of an object at the actual size of that object. If you're using a macro lens, because of the distances you're working at, your depth of field is going to be measured in millimeters.
