- It's one thing to understand the concepts behind AI, like machine learning and deep learning, but it's another thing to know how different technologies are created using AI and data science. Those technologies tend to change over time, meaning they become common and are not a novelty anymore. Like with face recognition, now we have it on our phones, but once upon a time, it was extremely advanced technology. Enter the Gartner Hype Cycle, a graph showing the maturity, adoption, and social application of technology. It has five phases. Let's work through them. Innovation trigger, a potential technology breakthrough kicks things off. Often, no usable products exist, and commercial viability is unproven. Then we go to peak of inflated expectations.
