- In the past, careers followed a pretty stable, predictable path. You started out in a junior role, became a manager, senior manager, director, VP or even, eventually, a member of the C-suite. At that first promotion, you'd be introduced to managerial skills, then some leadership training, maybe some executive coaching as you went up the ladder, and you'd probably be given some industry-specific learning too. Now, this ladder does still exist, but careers aren't so linear anymore. People move in lattice formation between departments, companies, and even industries.
