- These days, when you post a video to social media, it's very common to have open captions. Open captions is text on the screen that often matches what you're saying, and that's because a lot of video may start off silent. As people are flipping through the different streams or reels or timeline posts, usually the sound is off, and so you need to catch their attention. And even if the sound is on, there might be environmental interference or other factors, so captioning just improves the readability and the discoverability of your content. Let me show you, it's super simple here in Express. I'll just type in caption and choose the suggestion caption video. Now, I can click and choose a file. It can be up to five minutes long.
