Analyzing business performance gives you insights into how things are going now. But to succeed, you must also use that data to judge your future. In this movie, I will show you how to create a data forecast that uses your company's past performance to estimate how things might go in the future, as well as how to get around a common problem. My sample file is 05_05_Forecast, and you can find it in the Chapter_05 folder of the Exercise Files collection. In this workbook, I have a worksheet with a line graph that breaks down the sales by month. If I want to create a forecast based on this data, to take a guess, a mathematical guess on how sales will go in the future, I can go over to the sidebar and click the analytics tab. And then under model I can drag the forecast pill onto the viz, and a forecast appears and when I release the left mouse button. I get a forecast, but it doesn't actually make any sense.
