Export data to a CSV file
Most of this course focuses on how to bring data into Tableau, but it can be just as useful to know how to export it. The most useful data format is often the comma separated value or CSV file. In this movie, I will show you how to export your Tableau data to a CSV file and what it looks like when you open it in Excel. My sample file is 03_09_Export to CSV and you can find it in the chapter three folder of the Exercise Files collection. I'm in the body of the workbook with my visualizations, but what I want to actually do is to export the data that I use to create the visualizations. And again, I can see that by going to the data source. So I'll click data source in the bottom left. And here I have the table that provides the data. And then over here on the right I have a preview with 100 rows of data and all of my columns. So I'll switch back to sales by quarter.
